Between the 13th and 15th of June, Fenech Farrugia Fiott Legal proudly sponsored the AIJA Seminar “Setting Sails in Turbulent Times” which took place in Malta.

This seminar, organized by the AIJA Transport and International Business Law Commissions, addressed the latest challenges shaping the commerce and transport sectors. Sessions featured insightful discussions, expert insights, and opportunities to network with industry leaders.

AIJA is a global association dedicated to lawyers and in-house counsel aged 45 and under. It provides exceptional international opportunities for young lawyers to network, learn, and develop. AIJA currently has 4,000 members and supporters in over 100 countries, including more than 60 collective members and Bar Associations.

Dr Denia Ellul, Partner, Dr Luisa Briffa, Associate and Mr Joseph Fenech, Shipping Executive, attend the event.

The seminar featured comprehensive discussions on various dimensions affecting the supply chain, both retrospectively and prospectively. Key topics included pre-contractual stages, due diligence obligations under national and supranational legislation like Supply Chain Acts and the European Green Deal, and the significance of sustainable finance in transaction stability. Participants also explored the impact of Europe’s energy transition on commercial companies, strategies for safeguarding supply chains through long-term contracts, nearshoring, and flexible logistics solutions. The seminar concluded with a debate on enforcing contracts in unpredictable times and the associated challenges.

We look forward to future collaborations and continued participation in events that shape the future of transport law and commerce.
