Fenech Farrugia Fiott Legal were in attendance at the Opportunities in Business Jets conference held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Malta yesterday where it was announced that the number of planes on Malta’s registry had reached 270 aircraft, more than double the number in 2012.

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, Dr. Ian Borg, spoke at yesterday’s conference and noted that the number of operators holding a Maltese AOC has reached 35, up from 18 in 2012. This makes Malta one of the top European countries, showing the highest growth in this sector. He noted also that over the last few months around six new operators have initiated discussions in an effort to start operations under the Malta registry. 

The conference included various sessions which were discussed by local and foreign operators and legal entities. Some of the topics mentioned were the future of the aircraft ownership & their operations, aircraft procurement, aircraft valuation & financing, the perspective of an aircraft broker, marketing consolidation and sale & acquisition procedures for the business aviation.
