Malta has once again confirmed its strong standing as a high-quality flag State in the latest Shipping Industry Flag State Performance Table published by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).

The newest edition highlights continued positive performance by the majority of flag States responsible for the safety and environmental standards of the global merchant fleet. Malta is included among the largest registries with no more than one potential negative indicator out of the 19 criteria assessed, placing it within a top-performing group that collectively accounts for around 70% of the world’s commercial fleet.

Further reinforcing this position, Malta continues to show all-green performance indicators alongside other leading maritime administrations, reflecting sustained compliance with international regulations and a consistent commitment to safety, environmental protection, and seafarer welfare.

The table is based on objective, publicly available data, which includes Port State Control statistics and the ratification of international maritime conventions, and is intended to support informed decision-making by shipowners while encouraging ongoing improvements across the industry.

Overall, the latest results point to stability rather than short-term change, underlining Malta’s continued reputation as a reliable and well-regulated flag within the global shipping sector.
